Why did we write about the 111 year old woman?
BECAUSE SHE’S 111. I mean, shit. She was born in the 1800s! THE 1800s!

Bloody marys
anavalentina: Kingsley reminded me about ‘em - I resolve to have one this week. Transmet makes a good one. Where else? I think someone once told me that Last Resort makes a good one…or has a build-your-own bar. Something like that. Then again, it’s Last Resort (I don’t love the place). Also, I know nothing about Bloody Marys. I don’t relish the thought of drinking...

Why is there the option to order a pizza online?
anavalentina: How does that make anything easier for anyone? I think it must be left over from when instant Internet gratification first sounded really wild. Sometimes I order pizza online. For me, it’s more about being able to see what’s available while I’m ordering. Plus, I can add things at the last minute that I might otherwise have forgotten. That, and there are sometimes...

Richard Neupert (Film Studies) and Horace Newcomb (Peabody Awards) co-moderate. Just putting it out there.

anavalentina: half-expecting to be able to pshaw it back to the Internet, where its album art performs, I figured, .gif-induced swirls. But guess what. This piece of paper is freaking me out, man. It’s swirling. Are you sure that’s not the airborne hallucinogens included in every CD?

Market research (or whatever the term is) makes me laugh. I love it. It gets it right, but somehow they’re always just a little off. It ends up sounding really removed from the demographic while trying to claim an understanding of it. Also, the Forbes article (linked in the link) is pretty dry, but still has some gems.

Interesting
So Athens is listed as one of the “Dozen Distinctive Destinations” in the US. Franklin, TN, where my dad lives, is also listed. I feel like this is a little too boring to cover, but a source of pride all the same. Also, Juanita sent the news to me, and she works at the AP. Somehow that strikes me as weird and lucky.

Bomb threat, scuffle on Atlanta-to-LAX flight; man...
FBI agents and Los Angeles airport police detained a man who claimed he had a bomb and assaulted at least one crew member of a Delta Airlines flight bound for LAX from Atlanta, authorities said. The unidentified man was aboard Delta Airlines Flight 110, which was approaching Los Angeles, when he got up and stated he had a bomb,  FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller said. There was an altercation with...
