Does anyone want an invite to Wave? I have eight to give away.

Somebody explain

Definitely feeling like Island life is to blame for my not understanding

I haven’t really figured it out yet. So far, it seems like a combination of email, message boards, wikipedia and instant messaging.

I hate to just link to something else, but Wikipedia does a better job with a concise explanation of Wave. I’ve just been logging on, staring at the screen and feeling confused.

Cool invite me? klblum@gmail.com

You got it! I just have to wait until I’m home from work. Internet Explorer does not Wave.

“Robert Redford sent Paul Newman a totaled Porsche for his 50th birthday. Redford later got it back, as a giant compacted piece of metal. He had it turned into a sculpture and placed in Newman’s garden. Not once did they discuss the gifts.” —

The Greatest Gifts of All Time: The Wreck

[via O Magazine]

Browsing the magazines at work. I should track down Redford and get this confirmed, yes?

Suggest things, pleeeaasse?

The boyf likes movies. I know all of nothing about movies. That said, Criterion stuff is on sale, creating the perfect opportunity to get a nice Christmas gift, but because of the aforementioned lack of movie knowledge, I don’t have a CLUE what to buy him.

So, does anyone know of any particularly good Criterion films (that aren’t La Haine or Rules of the Game)?

But there are so many gorgeous films out.  Seven Samurai.  400 Blows. What about Rushmore?  Has he mentioned any films from French Cinema that he enjoyed?  Help me narrow it down!

Well, that’s kind of the problem I’m having. I can’t really pin down his taste in movies. Also, he owns a lot of movies, and I have no idea what all of them are. I know he has 400 Blows, but I’m not sure it’s Criterion.

I know he likes Lynch and Gilliam, but he owns most of their movies already. I can’t think of any other specific directors. But if there’s someone similar to the style of L. or G., that would be good. As for the class, I know he loved 400 Blows, and I think he enjoyed Le bonheur. Though, to be honest, I think he’s liked most of it.

Also, for what it’s worth, he dug the Todd Solondz film Happiness. There’s a bit of a darkness in a lot of the things he likes.

I went ahead and bought two movies last night, but one was supes cheap and the other is a TOTAL guess. Still, I’m thinking I could buy more since they’re ungodly cheap.
